Zepbound Travel Case
I am not a doctor, nor pretend to play one on the internet. Always talk with your own healthcare professionals. Written By: Elizabeth Skordinski // Updated: February 28, 2025 // Published: July 31, 2024
I have traveled extensively in the US with Zepbound pens. Having been on a Zepbound journey with Zepbound 15mg and GLP-1 medications for over two years, I have several travel with Zepbound hacks.
The most important travel hacks are:
- The Zepbound pen has glass, so you need to protect the pen from getting squished.
- Temperature control from freezing (will have to throw away).
- Best Zepbound travel cases I have tested over the last 2+ years of being on a GLP-1.
- How to carry properly in carry-on luggage
- Getting through airport security with Zepbound
- Light exposure for the Zepbound pen

Best Zepbound Travel Case
My three favorite for cases all doses of Zepbound are:
1) Tirzepatide Cooler Travel Case TSA Approved (the most expensive, but far superior for travel & TSA flying)

This is the best travel case as it can be on for days as long as you get the accompanying power bank charged.
It is easily chargeable as I charged mine on the airplane!
The travel case for Zepbound Cooler Travel Case TSA Approved is the superior option, particularly for long legged trips like Europe or cross country travels.

2) Clam shell temperature reader for Zepbound injection pens (slightly less expensive and can carry more)

3) Smaller Zepbound travel cooler for glp-1 medications (less expensive without temperature reader and can carry 2 pens)

Travel Case For Zepbound
MISTAKE: I made the previous mistake of traveling with my Zepbound pen in a lunchbox with gel ice pack.
There is actually a much easier way to travel with Zepbound, particularly if you want to fly. You do need to know the rules to get to through TSA, airline security process and X-Ray machines.
I wish I had just gotten a Zepbound travel case. I have tested several for you to find the best travel for my dose of Mounjaro.
Zepbound Travel Cooler
By using a travel case for Zepbound, I could prevent:
- Glass within Zepbound pen from getting squished because the Zepbound travel cooler is a firm protector.
- Excessive light on the pen (pen should not be in direct sunlight and excessive light).
- Keep the pen at the right temperature without freezing. If the pen freezes, you have through it away. Helps with high temperatures and extreme temperatures.
- Can easily put my tirzepatide pens or single-dose pen in my hand luggage.
- Getting through air travel security easier because everything is in one spot for security officers to easily screen. I included near my liquid restrictions in my carry-on bags.
How To Travel With Zepbound
How to travel with Zepbound? I did bring the original packaging of the box with a copy of your prescription in my Zepbound travel case for airline travel. I wanted no trouble, so I included this as an extra step (feel free to take or leave this step).
Zepbound pens technically can be out of the fridge at room temperature 21 days and not hotter than 86°F (30°C).(READ MORE)

Personally, I want the best possible contents within my Zepbound pen, so I would rather keep it cool…and also prevent the possibility of the glass in my pen from breaking!
Pen Freezing: Always test to make sure pen will not freeze (I just use a container of water) before putting pens in any containers or fridges.
If a Zepbound pen freezes, you HAVE to throw the pen away.
*AVOID* making the dumb Zepbound travel mistakes I made.
Simply get a Zepbound Travel Case. This is the Zepbound travel case I bought, LOVE and use:

I love this Zepbound travel case because it comes with two gel packs that keep the Zepbound pens cold.

In my Zepbound travel case, I also slip in my alcohol swabs.

How To Fly With Zepbound
Since the Zepbound pens do have glass in them, I put my Zepbound travel case in a Ziploc bag. Then, I wrap my travel case around an extra tshirt and am gingerly when carrying it.
I put my travel carry-on bag underneath my feet so I don’t have to worry about other flying passengers bashing my valuable Zepbound pen with any hard surface bags.
When I pack medications as always, I plan to keep my prescription drugs with me on the flight. I do also pack my Zepbound box that has my actual prescription label on to take with me too.
Is this necessary? I choose to bring my prescription labeled box just in case for additional screening from a TSA officer.
Or, if Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has any additional questions on my injectable medicines.
Zepbound Pen Travel Case
With your Zepbound pen travel case:
- One week out from travel, test case to make sure no freezing potential.
- One week out – if you have multiple pens, figure out how you are going to keep 2nd pen cold during your trip (continuously freezing ice packs or pen)?
- Two days prior to travel – make sure you put ice packs in freezer.
- Day of travel – put pen(s) into Zepbound pen travel case.

Traveling With Zepbound
Traveling with Zepbound can be easy. Plan out bringing your pens and having supplies for potential side effects of Zepbound.
With my extensive travel days, I will make sure to plan around shot day my activities within 24-48 hours after my shot. By design, I do not intentionally have rigorous activities those days if I can help it.
Disposal: I put the pens back into my Zepbound cooler and will dispose of them in my sharps container when I return home.

Most Common Side Effects Of Zepbound
Here are the most common Zepbound side effects. Of course everyone can experience different side effects.
I intentionally do NOT titrate up Zepbound doses near travel to avoid side effects.
Personally, just because I had one Zepbound side effect at one dose didn’t mean I was going to have it for all doses.
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Decreased appetite
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Indigestion
- Stomach Pain
Always talk with your doctor if you are having a common side effect, symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, abdominal pain or if your family has a history or thyroid cancer.
And the inverse for me is true too. Just because I didn’t experience one side effect on one dose didn’t mean I didn’t have that side effect at a higher dose when I titrated up.
I bring with my remedies for above side effects on travel. (READ MORE)
Zepbound has FDA approval for chronic obesity managmeent. Mounjaro been prescribed for type 2 diabetes.
Recently, Mounjaro has now been FDA approved for chronic obesity management under new name Zepbound. Both Mounjaro and Zepbound are from the manufacturer Eli Lilly.
The biggest difference between Zepbound and Mounjaro is the FDA approval. Because of the approval of Zepbound, this can change insurance approval coverage for patients.
Insurance companies hurdles is the biggest difference for both injectable medications. You may need a prior authorization from your insurance company health plans before getting weight loss medications or obesity treatment.
