Semaglutide Body Aches

I have lost -67lbs on GLP-1 receptor agonists and have been on Mounjaro for almost 41 weeks (so far!).

Semaglutide injection is slightly different than Mounjaro, what I’m on, as a semaglutide is the generic of Ozempic (for type 2 diabetics) and Wegovy (for weight-loss drugs).

The Food & Drug Administration has approved Ozempic for Type 2 diabetics and Wegovy for long-term chronic weight management

Ozempic is a brand name for the medication semaglutide, which is used to treat type 2 diabetes. Wegovy is Ozempic, but Wegovy is prescription medication for weight loss and to help with body weight. Ozempic is typically administered by subcutaneous injection, which means it is injected under the skin, usually in the abdomen (belly) or thigh.

You inject semaglutide in three semaglutide site locations:

• Stomach by belly button
• Thigh
• Upper Arm

Semaglutide side effects usually change over taking the medication. My experience has been just because I didn’t get one side effect for one site location or one dose, does not mean I won’t get in the future with the injectable medication.

This does not mean I won’t get side effects with that particular dose as I titrate up.

Can Ozempic Cause Body Aches?

Use of Ozempic can cause body aches.

You may not have body aches all the time from taking semaglutide, but body aches are one of the side effects of semaglutide.

Going back to titrating up doses and also varying site locations, you may get semaglutide side effects, side effects of Ozempic from manufacturer Novo Nordisk or side effects of Wegovy from manufacturer Novo Nordisk depending which medication you are on.

When I titrate up to a higher dose, I know body aches and tiredness come for me.

The body aches feel like I have the mild flu or my muscles are just sore.

Currently, when I inject into my arm, I also get body aches and tiredness.

Does this mean everyone will get body aches? NO.

Everyone’s body is different and will have different reactions, different side effects…or NONE at all! With rapid weight loss, body aches can be one of the potential side effects.

Ozempic Body Aches

SOLUTIONS: Gratefully, there are solutions for Ozempic body aches.

Here are 3 Body Ache Solutions that have worked well for me:

3 – Recognizing Rest

Maybe you can relate? I’m a high functioning, high output in productivity person.

Recognizing rest on my journey has been so important. I allow my body the gift of rest and recognizing when it hurts.

The good news is slowing down has been a valuable lesson for me as I make these lifestyle changes.

In addition to my muscle mass changing, my energy levels have changed taking a GLP-1 receptor agonists. If I’m not careful about my rest, my mood changes.

4 – Over-the-Counter Medicines & Pain Relievers

Non-prescription pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen may help alleviate mild body aches, but consult your healthcare provider to get professional medical advice before using any medication.

5 – Proper Nutrition

Maintain a balanced diet to ensure your body gets the essential nutrients it needs. Proper nutrition can help reduce the likelihood of experiencing body aches since movement of food has changed with delayed gastric emptying.

Ozempic Side Effects:

Here are the most common Ozempic side effects. Of course everyone can experience variations of the most common side effects.

Personally, just because I had one side effect at one dose didn’t mean I was going to have it for all doses.

Possible side effects:

• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Decreased appetite
• Vomiting
• Constipation
• Indigestion
• Stomach Pain
• Gastrointestinal symptoms

And the inverse for me is true too. Just because I didn’t experience one side effect on one dose didn’t mean I didn’t have that side effect at a higher dose when I titrated up.

If you are on diabetes medications, continue to monitor your blood sugar levels and discuss with healthcare professional about medical conditions.

Always seek medical help from your healthcare provider if you are having severe pain, severe stomach pain, severe abdominal pain and severe symptoms mentioned above. Those can be serious side effects and may need medical attention quickly from your health care professional. A rare side effect is thyroid cancer. You are at are at a higher risk for a genetic type of thyroid cancer if you have a familial history. Talk to your healthcare provider about symptoms of thyroid cancer.

When to Seek Medical Attention:

While mild to moderate body aches are a known side effect of semaglutide, it’s essential to be vigilant and consult with your healthcare provider if:

• The body aches are severe, persistent, or worsening.
• You experience other concerning symptoms alongside body aches.
• The body aches are interfering with your daily life or preventing you from engaging in regular activities.
