How Long Can Wegovy Stay Out Of The Fridge

28 days the Wegovy injection pen can stay out of the fridge at room temperature of 46°F to 86°F with the pen cap still on.

The best way for Wegovy storage is in your refrigerator and ideally not near the back of the fridge because it is colder there. Make sure you avoid direct sunlight if your Wegovy prescription medication is left out. 

A good idea I use to store my injectable medication is keeping my pens in the dairy pull out draw or butter section of my fridge. This ensures my pens are out of reach of children if they go into my fridge because those sections are higher in my fridge. In addition, the temperature range stays consistent for Wegovy storage instructions.

Proper storage of Wegovy injections is important for your weekly injection. I keep my GLP-1 receptor agonist in its original carton to avoid any confusion and so my next dose is easily ready.

Wegovy Room Temperature

You can leave Wegovy at room temperature for 28 days, but should you? Ideally not. Ideally keep your unopened Wegovy pens at suggested refridgerator temperatures.

If your Wegovy pen has been frozen, throw the pen away.

Throw away your Wegovy pen if it has been exposed to light or temperatures above 86°F (30°C).

If your Wegovy pen has been out of the refrigerator for 28 days or longer, throw your pen away.

How To Store Wegovy

You can simply store your Wegovy pens in the box they came in. I keep the medication guide that Novo Nordisk gives in the original packaging to ensure I’m rotating injection sites for body areas.

Injection sites are:

• Upper Arm
• 2 inches away from belly button on stomach
• Front of thighs in upper leg

There are five doses of Wegovy:

• .25mg (Wegovy Starting Dose)
• .5mg
• 1 mg
• 1.7 mg
• 2.4 mg (Highest Wegovy Dose)

As with all GLP-1 agonists, it is not a race to get to higher doses. Slow and steady wins the race.

Wegovy® contains semaglutide. Wegovy should NOT be used with other semaglutide injection products or other GLP-1 receptor agonist medicines.

Wegovy Sharps Container

This is my favorite Wegovy sharps container I use.

After your first use, get into habit of disposing of your Wegovy pen into sharps container. Your prefilled pen will need to be disposed of in an FDA-cleared sharps disposal container or sturdy household container that has a tight-fitting lid.

Do not throw the pen away in your household trash. 

Think through where to put your sharps container if you have kids, cats, dogs or pets that can near the disposal of your Wegovy pen.

Figure out where you will store your sharps container after use of Wegovy.

Wegovy Storage

If your Wegovy pen gets to extreme temperatures or higher temperatures, you will need to throw it away and get a new pen.

​Make sure to do first in, first out pen rotation to mind the expiration date on your pens.

Missed Wegovy Dose

If you have a missed dose, talk with your healthcare professional.

Having had significant weight loss, lifestyle changes have had to occur for me on my journey to get to a healthy body weight and body mass index. I’ve had to change my food intake and have more physical activity. 

​I take my injection on the same day of the week. If this day needs to change for travel or sickness, I talk with my healthcare provider. 

Eventually, talking with my healthcare provide about what does the maintenance dose of Wegovy look like for chronic weight management? I don’t know yet, but am continuing to learn.

Mounjaro vs Ozempic vs Wegovy

Both Mounjaro, Ozempic & Wegovy are once weekly injections.

Wegovy.com: Participants saw 15% weight loss or -35lbs in 1961 adults vs placebo in a 68 week study. Placebo: Participants saw 3.3% with an average weight loss of -7lbs

AIC Levels For Ozempic & Mounjaro:

Ozempic A1C levels: Lowered 1.86% on 1mg dose. 1mg is the second highest Ozempic dose. (Source)

Mounjaro A1C levels: Patients reached up to 2.3% A1C reduction with Mounjaro 15 mg. (Source) 15mg is Mounjaro’s highest dose.

From studies, Mounjaro has slightly higher data for greater weight loss than Wegovy…but only slightly.

What are the differences in Ozempic v Mounjaro doses?

Ozempic Doses: .25mg, 5mg, 1mg and 2mg. Maximum dose for Ozempic Group is 2 mg dose.

Mounjaro 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg. Maximum dose for Mounjaro is 15mg.

Wegovy Doses: .25mg, .5mg, 1mg 1.7mg and 2.4mg. Maximum does for Wegovy GLP-1 medication is 2.4mg.

Here are the most common Mounjaro side effects from Mounjaro.com. Of course everyone can experience different side effects.

Personally, just because I had one Mounjaro side effect at one dose didn’t mean I was going to have potential side effects for all doses.

• Gastrointestinal side effects

If you are on diabetes medications, continue to monitor your blood sugar levels and discuss with healthcare professional about medical conditions.

Always seek medical help from your healthcare provider if you are having severe pain, severe stomach pain, severe abdominal pain and severe symptoms mentioned above. Those can be serious side effects and may need medical attention quickly from your health care professional. A rare side effect is thyroid cancer. You are at are at a higher risk for a genetic type of thyroid cancer if you have a familial history. Talk to your healthcare provider about symptoms of thyroid cancer and other severe side effects.

Type 2 diabetics should continue to monitor blood glucose levels as injectable medication can cause low blood sugar.

Ozempic Nausea

• Eat bland diet like crackers or toast
• Get fresh air
• Eat foods that contain water like gelantin or soups
• Avoid greasy foods
• Avoid sugary foods
• Avoid laying down after you eat
• Eat slowly
• Drink clear drinks
• Drink ice cold drinks
